Are you interested in Spill Response Training?

This course will give members the opportunity to assist in the event of a spill anywhere in W̱SÁNEĆ territory should the event arise. The main focus is to have a team ready to go in the event of a spill. This will be a two-day course and it will be take place at the Band Office. Transportation is available if needed, and lunch will be provided.

First Response to Oil Spills Training (FROST)
This two-day (15 hour) training and information session has been developed for Canadian Coast Guard and its Partner Agencies, Coastal Communities, Indigenous groups and Industry, who have access to, and may be expected to deploy booms. Partner Agencies and other groups can request this training under special circumstances.

This course will enable you to:
Understand the Marine Oil Spill Preparedness and Response Regime The mandate of Canadian Coast Guard (CCG) Environmental Response (ER) is to ensure an appropriate response to ship‐source, mystery and oil handling facility spills to the marine environment. We will also discuss how CCG works with other governments, partners and the private sector in both preparedness and response to spills.

Respond Safely
Emphasis will be on recognizing the potential site-specific hazards of petroleum products on the water and identify and use appropriate Personal Protective Equipment (PPE). Assess an Oil Spill on the Water and Provide Information to Response and Regulatory Agencies You will learn how to identify oil, how it behaves in the marine environment and estimate the quantity of a spill. You will also learn how to identify the source of the spill and accurately describe what actions are being taken to control, contain and recover the product.

Boom Deployment
You will learn about different types of boom, and how and why they are used in oil spill response. There is also a practical session with a on boom deployment.
