Cultural Engagement

Placeholder text—————Fisheries cultural events and engagement activities support the revitalization of traditional knowledge while fostering community participation and learning. Initiatives such as reef net revitalization, student internships, pit cooks at TIXEN, and invasive species removal—including Scotch broom—strengthen cultural connections, build skills, and promote stewardship of land and marine environments across generations.

Reef Net Revitalization

Placeholder text—————Reef net revitalization programs support the renewal of a highly selective and sustainable fishing practice that has been used for generations. Through hands-on training, knowledge sharing with Elders and harvesters, and on-the-water activities, the program strengthens cultural transmission, supports food harvesting, and builds technical skills. Reef net revitalization also reinforces stewardship principles by emphasizing respect for marine ecosystems, selective harvesting, and responsibility to future generations.
