Community Programs Policy Advisor
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
Policy & Program Development
- Develop, review, and update policies, procedures, and program frameworks across Community Services.
- Ensure alignment with the Nation’s strategic priorities, governance direction, and cultural values.
- Translate funding agreements, legislation, and regulatory requirements into practical, user-friendly policies.
Community Engagement & Collaboration
- Engage community members, Elders, and staff to inform policy and program development.
- Facilitate discussions, workshops, and consultations to support inclusive decision-making.
- Work collaboratively with departments to ensure policies reflect operational realities.
Program Support & Continuous Improvement
- Provide guidance and support to staff in implementing and interpreting policies.
- Monitor policy effectiveness and recommend improvements based on feedback and data.
- Identify opportunities to strengthen programs and service delivery.
Research, Compliance & Reporting
- Conduct research on best practices and emerging trends in community services.
- Support compliance with funding, legal, and reporting requirements.
- Prepare reports, briefing notes, and recommendations for leadership.
Administrative Support
- Maintain policy documentation, templates, and records.
- Contribute to departmental and organizational planning initiatives.
Working Conditions
- Office-based with regular community engagement.
- Occasional evenings or weekends may be required.
- Local travel within the community.

- Community Services leadership and program staff
- Elders, Knowledge Keepers, and community members
- Other Nation departments (e.g., Finance, HR, Governance/Administration)
- External partners, funders, and regulatory bodies (as required)

EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE
Required
- Post-secondary education in Public Administration, Social Sciences, Indigenous Studies, or a related field (or equivalent experience).
- 3–5 years of experience in policy development, program development, or community services.
Assets
- Experience working with or within Indigenous communities.
- Strong understanding of governance, funding frameworks, and regulatory environments.
- Proven ability to translate complex information into clear, accessible documents.
Additional Requirements
- Satisfactory criminal record check (required).
- Valid Class 5 driver’s licence and reliable transportation (preferred/required based on role needs).
- Ability to work occasional evenings and weekends and travel locally within the community.
