Marine Mammal Naturalist Training
Earlier in March SȾÁUTW̱ First Nation hosted a 4-day Marine Mammal Naturalist Training workshop with members of SȾÁUTW̱ Fisheries, T’Sou-ke, Tsartlip Nations and the QENTOL, YEN / W̱SÁNEĆ Marine Guardians, Parks Canada, DFO Species at Risk, and the Whale Protection Unit. This opportunity was organized by DFO with MERS providing the workshop regarding the conservation of marine mammals. It is through opportunities like this that bring us closer together. By having likeminded individuals in the same space sharing and working together for the betterment of our communities. We hope to continue these partnerships as we are stronger together.
Invasive Species Removal Events
SȾÁUTW̱ Fisheries co-hosted with CRD Parks Spring Break Invasive Species Removal events with TLH on March 18th and with our SȾÁUTW̱ Youth on March 26th, 2025. Both events were a success! The children and youth were so enthusiastic to learn about invasive species and native plants. They played games, ate some great snacks and removed invasive Scottish Broom; they didn’t want to leave!!! I can’t wait to get our children and youth back out there again.

Marine Basic First Aid
SȾÁUTW̱ Fisheries staff attended Marine Basic First Aid for 2-days and are now fully certified. We had 8 staff attend in total!
