HOURS OF WORK: Full-Time (35 hours per week) Monday to Friday 8:30 am to 4:30 pm
REPORTS TO: Community Housing Coordinator and Housing Manager
WAGE RANGE: $52,000 – $62,000 annually (based on experience and qualifications)

POSITION OVERVIEW

The Housing Project Assistant supports the delivery of the SȾÁUTW̱ Multiplex Wrap-Around Support Program funded through the Reaching Home initiative. Working closely with the Community Housing Coordinator, Housing Manager, and Housing Department, this position provides culturally safe, trauma-informed, and relationship-based support to help tenants maintain stable housing and reduce the risk of homelessness. The role assists with tenant outreach, tenancy education, life skills development, community engagement, and connections to wellness, income, and social support services.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Provide outreach, engagement, and practical day-to-day support to tenants and community members who are at risk of homelessness or housing instability.
    Assist tenants in maintaining stable housing through regular check-ins, tenancy support, life skills encouragement, and timely referral to appropriate internal and external services.
  • Support tenants in accessing income assistance, wellness services, transportation, food security resources, identification, and other community-based supports.
  • Assist with move-ins, tenant orientations, welcome supports, and housing-related communication to help residents understand expectations, available resources, and support processes.
  • Support early intervention efforts by identifying emerging concerns, assisting with conflict resolution, and helping coordinate communication between tenants, staff, landlords, and service providers when appropriate.
  • Assist the Community Housing Coordinator with planning, organizing, and delivering tenant engagement activities, workshops, wellness sessions, and culturally grounded support programming.
  • Help coordinate schedules, appointments, transportation, meeting logistics, supplies, communications, and participation tracking for housing-related programs and events.
  • Maintain accurate, timely, and confidential records, including case notes, contact logs, participation records, referral information, and program documentation in accordance with organizational and funder requirements.
  • Observe and report tenant or program concerns, emerging support needs, and service gaps to the Community Housing Coordinator or Housing Manager in a timely and professional manner.
  • Work collaboratively with the Housing Department, Tsawout Housing Association, community programs, Elders, and external service providers to support coordinated and culturally safe service delivery.
  • Provide respectful, culturally safe, trauma-informed, and relationship-based support that upholds the dignity, privacy, and wellbeing of tenants, residents, and community members.

STRATEGIC LEADERSHIP & PROGRAM DEVELOPMENT

  • Support implementation of the Reaching Home Wrap-Around Support Program through outreach, tenancy support, and housing stability activities aligned with SȾÁUTW̱ First Nation priorities and community housing goals.

OPERATIONAL MANAGEMENT & PROGRAM DELIVERY

  • Support day-to-day housing service delivery through tenant follow-up, outreach coordination, transportation support, and program activities that promote housing stability.

COMMUNITY ENGAGEMENT & CULTURAL STEWARDSHIP

• Support delivery of culturally grounded tenant engagement sessions focused on life skills, wellness, tenancy
education, and cultural connection.
• Promote respectful, culturally safe, and trauma-informed interactions in all aspects of service delivery.

PARTNERSHIPS & COLLABORATION
• Work collaboratively with the Housing Department, Tsawout Housing Association, Elders, community
departments, wellness providers, and external agencies to connect tenants with appropriate services and supports.

FINANCIAL OVERSIGHT & PROGRAM ADMINISTRATION
• Maintain accurate participation records, case notes, and administrative tracking related to outreach activities,
tenant supports, and housing program delivery.

FUNDING DEVELOPMENT & REPORTING
• Support data collection, outcome tracking, and reporting requirements related to the Reaching Home initiative
and other housing stability activities, as assigned.

COMMUNICATIONS & OUTREACH
• Maintain positive, professional communication with tenants, staff, and community partners.
• Provide outreach and follow-up support in a respectful, culturally safe, and service-oriented manner.

EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE

• Certificate, diploma, or post-secondary training in Social Services, Community Support, Human Services, Indigenous Studies, Housing Support, or a related field; an equivalent combination of education, training, and relevant experience may also be considered.
• A minimum of one to three years of relevant experience in outreach, housing support, tenant services, case support, community-based programming, or social services is preferred.
• Experience working with Indigenous individuals, families, or communities, with demonstrated understanding of culturally safe, respectful, and trauma-informed service delivery, is strongly preferred.
• Experience supporting individuals facing housing instability, homelessness risk, complex barriers, or access challenges related to wellness, income, or social supports is an asset.
• Experience coordinating workshops, tenant engagement activities, appointments, transportation, or community support services is an asset.
• Experience maintaining accurate records, case notes, participation logs, and program documentation in a confidential and organized manner is preferred.
• Valid BC Class 5 driver’s licence, reliable transportation, and a satisfactory Criminal Record Check may be required or considered an asset, depending on operational needs.

• Understanding of culturally safe and trauma-informed service delivery practices
• Ability to build trusting and respectful relationships with tenants and community members
• Strong written, verbal, and interpersonal communication skills• Ability to work independently and collaboratively within a team environment
• Knowledge of community resources, support services, and referral processes
• Ability to manage sensitive information with confidentiality, professionalism, and good judgment

WORKING CONDITIONS

• The Housing Project Assistant primarily works on-site at the SȾÁUTW̱ Multiplex and Tsawout Band Office.
• Occasional travel within the community and to appointments, meetings, and community events is required.
• Occasional evening or extended hours may be required to support tenant engagement activities, outreach, and program delivery.
