Reclaiming the Future
The Salt Spring Island Foundation is pleased to announce the launch of the SȾÁUTW̱ Land Back Campaign.
This initiative is a chance for Salt Spring Islanders to give back to the SȾÁUTW̱ Nation, who have generously shared their reserve through public access trails.
Building on Opportunity
A 2.17-acre parcel on Reginald Hill, adjacent to the existing SȾÁUTW̱ reserve, has become available for purchase. Securing this land will support the SȾÁUTW̱ Nation in reconnecting with their ancestral home and having independent access to the land.
This campaign is a small but concrete opportunity aligned with the Land Back movement – a broad initiative to return unceded lands to local First Nations to restore Indigenous land sovereignty compromised during colonialism. Like many other First Nations, the SȾÁUTW̱ are actively seeking to expand their land base and are very excited at this opportunity.
