POSITION: Summer Program Coordinator
HOURS OF WORK: June – August 2026 – Monday to Friday 8:30am to 4:30pm
REPORTS TO: Director of Education
WAGE RANGE: $30.00/hour

The Summer Program Coordinator is responsible for the development and delivery of culturally informed educational and recreational summer programming for children and youth. Reporting to the Director of Education, the Summer Program Coordinator oversees the Summer Program Team in providing literacy, numeracy, cultural, language, active living, and life skills supports to children and youth during the summer months, and works in collaboration with families, community members, Elders, and Knowledge Keepers to integrate W̱SÁNEĆ cultural values and SENĆOŦEN language into the programming. This is a 3-month term position, for the period of June – August 2026.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

Program Development and Delivery

  • Develop and oversee culturally grounded educational, literacy, numeracy, cultural, language, active living, and life skills summer programming for children and youth.
  • Create a safe and engaging environment for participants and staff.
  • Develop program policies and procedures.
  • Provide a daily balance of active/quiet, indoor/outdoor and individual/group activities.
  • Organize special events, outings, and activities.

Operational Management

  • Assist in the recruitment, training, scheduling, and supervision of Summer Program staff.
  • Coordinate and facilitate student registration process.
  • Manage day to day operations, including scheduling and emergency response management.

Community Engagement and Communications

  • Provide information about programming to the community through newsletters, social media, announcements, and community engagement events.
  • Serve as the primary contact for families and community regarding any aspects of the program and
    communications regarding students.
  • Provide registered families with policies and procedures documentation and ensure all registration forms are completed.

Partnerships & Collaboration

  • Collaborate with families, community members, Elders, Knowledge Keepers and language teachers to
    integrate SENĆOŦEN language, W̱SÁNEĆ cultural teachings, and land-based learning into the programming.
  • Collaborate with internal and external partners to provide holistic programming support.

Financial Oversight & Program Administration

  • Manage purchasing of materials, supplies, and equipment.
  • Collaborate with internal and external partners to provide holistic programming support.
  • Manage payments of contractors, facilitators, transportation and meals.
  • Ensure that program planning meets budget requirements.

EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE

  • Completion of a post secondary program in a related field such as Education or Human Services, or a combination of related education and experience.
  • Experience working in an education setting.
  • Experience managing, directing, and leading a team.
  • Working knowledge of MS Office software (Excel, Word, Outlook).
  • Experience working with First Nations, preferably in an Education or Human Services role.
  • Current First Aid & CPR and Food Safe Level 1.
  • A valid class 5 driver’s license is considered an asset.
  • Clear Criminal Record Check with Vulnerable Sector screening.

WORKING CONDITIONS

  • Office-based with use of standard office equipment
  • Occasional travel for meetings and events
  • Occasional evening or weekend work to meet community and organizational needs
  • Indoor/outdoor.
  • Extended periods of standing or walking.
  • Occasional lifting (up to 40lbs).
  • Bending, kneeling.

Culture/Language

Respect for and working knowledge of the W̱SÁNEĆ culture and SENĆOŦEN language is required.
