DIRECTOR OF CHILD & FAMILY SUPPORT SERVICES
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
Strategic & Operational Leadership
- Lead the strategic visioning and operational planning for the SȾÁUTW̱ First Nation Child and Family Services
programs, ensuring culturally responsive, high-quality service delivery. - Translate Chief and Council direction and strategic priorities into operational plans, policies, frameworks,
and measurable outcomes for the division. - Guide Child and Family Services staff in achieving annual program deliverables aligned with the Nation’s
operational plan. - Strengthen partnerships with Indigenous Services Canada (ISC), FNHA, family service agencies, and other
external partners to ensure alignment with agreements and community priorities. - Identify opportunities for service improvement, program innovation, and long-term planning to enhance
child, youth, and family well-being.
Program & Service Delivery
- Provide oversight and leadership for family-centered, prevention-focused programming that supports
children, youth, and families. - Ensure programs and services promote safety, family well-being, cultural continuity, and community
engagement. - Monitor service quality and program outcomes using data and evaluation tools to inform continuous
improvement. - Ensure compliance with applicable legislation, child and family protection frameworks, funding agreements,
and service standards. - Collaborate with community leadership, families, and partner agencies to ensure programs meet the needs
of SȾÁUTW̱ members.
Financial Management & Accountability
- Oversight and Management of Child and Family Service Programs budgeting, financial planning, and
expenditures. - Assists in the development annual budgets, quarterly forecasts, and spending plans.
- Prepares reports and ensures compliance with the SȾÁUTW̱First Nation Financial Administration Law,
financial policies, and funding agreements. - Monitor budgets and implement corrective measures to achieve financial targets where necessary.
- Support funding applications, grant proposals, and required reporting to funders
- Contribute to SȾÁUTW̱First Nation’s annual budgeting process and long-term financial sustainability planning.
Program Policy Development
- Supports the development and implementation of policies, procedures, and operational standards that
strengthen service delivery and compliance. - Ensure operations adhere to applicable federal and provincial legislation and regulatory frameworks.
- Support culturally informed policy implementation and governance best practices.
Leadership & Team Development
- Lead recruitment, onboarding, retention, and succession planning for the division.
- Mentor coach and support Child and Family Support program staff.
- Promote a collaborative, culturally safe and trauma informed work environment
- Support staff development through coaching, mentorship, and leadership development.
- Apply change management principles to support staff through organizational change.
- Ensure employee files, contracts, and documentation comply with HR legislation.
- Champion culturally grounded leadership frameworks and a positive, respectful workplace culture.
Community Engagement & Communications
- Lead community and family engagement strategies to strengthen participation and inclusion in Child and
Family Services programs. - Ensure clear, consistent, and culturally appropriate communications with families, staff, and external
partners. - Strengthen trust, transparency, and accountability through meaningful engagement with children, youth,
families, and the broader communit
CORE COMPETENCIES
- Strong working knowledge of the Child and Family protection framework, including parent and caregiver rights;
and the ability to apply legislation and policy in practice, support families in navigating these systems for
informed rights based decision making that prioritizes child safety and family wellbeing. - Strong analytical, planning, and problem-solving skills
- Collaborative, culturally grounded, and trauma-informed leadership style
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills
- Ability to lead, mentor, and support multidisciplinary teams

EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE
- Degree in Social Work, Human Services, or a related field
- Minimum 5 years of progressive leadership experience in social services, health, or community-based settings
- Minimum 5 years of experience managing and leading staff
- Demonstrated expertise in child-centred, family-based, and strengths-based service models
- Experience in program development, community engagement, and policy implementation
- Strong knowledge of federal and provincial child and family services legislation and funding frameworks
- Proficiency in Microsoft Word, Excel, Outlook, and PowerPoint
- Ability to obtain a clear criminal record check, including vulnerable sector
WORKING CONDITIONS
- Office-based with use of standard office equipment
- Occasional travel for meetings and events
- Occasional evening or weekend work to meet community and organizational needs
