Community Notice
Update: June 16, 2023
A message from Tsawout Public Works Department: Our department would like to update the community that the leak into Tetayut Creek was fixed very quickly on the night of Tuesday June 13. A lot of work had to be done before cleanup could start, but we now have vacuum trucks cleaning the area. Water samples are being done daily until Health is satisfied. Public works and fisheries are working with a well know biologist firm to make sure the area is cleaned to the highest level possible. We will update any advisories when we can ensure the safety of the community.

There has been a substantial sewage leak into Tetayut Creek due to old infrastructure. Community members are being advised to stay out of Tetayut creek, and refrain from harvesting any shellfish in Saanichton Bay and surrounding waters.
The spill has been stopped and is now in the process of being cleaned up. Tsawout First Nation Public Works, Maintenance, Fisheries and Health departments are working together with Environment Canada to make sure the spill is cleaned up to the highest standards. Please stay tuned for an update on progress on social media platforms.
