LANGUAGE & CULTURE COORDINATOR
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
Operational Leadership & Program Delivery
- Coordinate the implementation of language and cultural initiatives across the organization.
- Support the planning, delivery, and evaluation of language and culture programs, activities, and events.
- Work with departments to integrate language and cultural components into community programs, services, and events.
- Support the development of program work plans, schedules, and implementation timelines.
- Assist with organizing workshops, cultural gatherings, language learning opportunities, and community programming.
- Ensure cultural protocols and community values are reflected in program delivery.
Program Services & Collaboration with Community
- Work closely with Elders, Knowledge Keepers, and community members to support culturally grounded programming.
- Facilitate collaboration between departments to strengthen the integration of language and culture within programs and services.
- Support the development and coordination of culturally relevant programming for youth, families, and community members.
- Assist in identifying opportunities to expand language learning and cultural engagement initiatives.
- Maintain positive relationships with community members, partners, and service providers.
Financial Tracking & Program Administration
- Track program budgets, expenditures, and funding allocations to support responsible program delivery.
- Monitor program progress and maintain records of activities, participation, and outcomes.
- Support the preparation of financial summaries and program progress updates.
- Assist in maintaining accurate program documentation and reporting records.
Funding Applications & Reporting
- Identify funding opportunities that support language revitalization and cultural programming.
- Assist with the preparation and submission of funding applications and proposals.
- Support reporting requirements for funding agreements, including program activity summaries and outcome reporting.
- Maintain tracking systems for funding applications, reporting deadlines, and program deliverables.
Community Engagement & Communications
- Support community outreach and engagement related to language and cultural programming.
- Coordinate communication with community members regarding events, programs, and participation opportunities.
- Assist with developing communication materials to promote language and cultural initiatives.
- Gather feedback from community members to help inform program improvements and future initiatives.
- Support the documentation and sharing of cultural knowledge and program outcomes in respectful and appropriate ways.
EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE
- Diploma in Indigenous Studies, Language Revitalization, or a related field, or equivalent experience.
- Experience supporting community-based programs or cultural initiatives.
- Experience working with Indigenous communities or organizations is an asset.
Knowledge, Skills & Abilities
- Strong understanding of Indigenous language revitalization and cultural programming.
- Ability to coordinate projects, programs, and events.
- Strong communication, relationship-building, and community engagement skills.
- Ability to work respectfully with Elders and Knowledge Keepers.
- Strong organizational, administrative, and reporting skills.
- Experience with funding applications and program reporting is an asset.
WORKING CONDITIONS
- Office-based with use of standard office equipment
- Occasional travel for meetings and events
- Occasional evening or weekend work to meet community and organizational needs
