Youth Athlete Travel Support Guidelines for SȾÁUTW̱ Members

Purpose

This initiative was introduced as of May 2026 to help reduce barriers to participation and provide timely, flexible, and responsive travel support for SȾÁUTW̱ youth athletes and their families.

The SȾÁUTW̱ Youth Athlete Travel Support Fund helps reduce financial barriers for SȾÁUTW̱ youth athletes who have been selected to participate in recognized provincial, national or international sport competitions, championships, showcases, or development opportunities. This fund is intended to support youth in pursuing healthy, meaningful opportunities that build confidence, discipline, leadership, and pride while representing themselves, their families, and the community.

The fund recognizes that participation in sport can strengthen wellness, belonging, resilience, teamwork, and personal growth. By supporting youth athletes with travel-related costs, SȾÁUTW̱ invests in opportunities that encourage excellence, healthy lifestyles, community connection, and positive representation of the Nation at the provincial and international levels.

Vision

To foster a healthy, inclusive, and supportive community where SȾÁUTW̱ youth athletes have equitable opportunities to develop their talents, participate in high-level sport, and travel with dignity and pride while strengthening wellness, leadership, and community connection.

 Goals & Objectives

  • Reduce financial barriers that may prevent SȾÁUTW̱ youth athletes from attending provincial and international sport opportunities.
  • Promote healthy lifestyles, commitment, teamwork, and leadership through sport participation.
  • Support youth in representing SȾÁUTW̱ with pride, respect, and positive community spirit.
  • Encourage equitable access to meaningful athletic opportunities that contribute to personal growth and development.
  • Strengthen youth confidence, resilience, and belonging through opportunities to participate in organized sport beyond the local level
  • Ensure available funding is distributed fairly, transparently, and in a manner that benefits youth and the wider community.

Who Can Apply and How Applications Are Considered

This fund is intended to support registered SȾÁUTW̱ youth athletes and their families where travel costs may create barriers to participation in recognized provincial or international sport opportunities. Applications are reviewed with care, fairness, and consideration of the athlete’s effort, opportunity, financial need, and the overall benefit to youth and the community.

Applicants may include:

  • Parents, guardians, or caregivers of registered SȾÁUTW̱ youth athletes; up to age 21.
  • Youth athletes who have been selected, invited, qualified, or rostered for an eligible provincial or international sport event.
  • Families seeking support to help offset participation costs that may otherwise prevent attendance.
  • Applicants able to provide documentation confirming the event, selection, invitation, or registration requirements

Application Approval Process

  • Parents, caregivers, or youth athletes may submit a request for travel support.
  • Supporting documents should include event information, proof of selection or registration, and cost estimates, invoices, or travel details.
  • Requests are reviewed with consideration of the athlete’s eligibility, available funding, urgency, and potential benefit to the youth and community.
  • To help ensure fair access, funding is generally available once per athlete per calendar year, unless an exception is approved based on circumstances and available resources.
  • Applicants may be contacted if additional information is required to complete the review.
  • Funding decisions are made with fairness, transparency, and responsiveness to the needs of youth and families
