Big strides were made today at the construction site. The long beams that will support the roof trusses were put in place today.

These beams were placed atop the posts using a 90 tonne crane. It was impressive to watch the crane operator and crew gently place these huge timbers into place on top of the posts, while threading the ready-rod through the pre-drilled holes which were then secured in place. Great work!

Bighouse Construction Update! It was a busy week last week at Tsawout, with the arrival of the final four logs needed for the build.

After a lengthy search for the right timbers, these four logs were located and preparations were made to transport them from the traditional territories of the ‘NAMGIS Nation to the building site in W̱SÁNEĆ Territory. Tsawout First Nation would like to raise our hands to the ‘NAMGIS people in gratitude for supporting the rebuilding of our cultural home. HíSW̱ḴE HÁLE.

We would also like to recognize Western Forest Products for helping to locate and coordinate the delivery of the logs to our building site.

These logs represent the final pieces to the construction of the Bighouse, and construction will take shape rapidly now that these have been found and delivered.

Thank you to everyone who is working hard on-site, and to all of those who have supported this project in many ways. Your hard work and support is greatly appreciated.
